Five staff from the Training & Information Unit of the Coastal Fisheries Division are currently delivering Post-Harvest and Value-Adding Training across Kiritimati, Fanning, and Washington Islands.
The hands-on sessions, running from May 27 to June 3, aim to improve seafood quality, teach income-boosting techniques, and promote sustainable fish handling.
Split into three teams, the trainers are engaging local fishers directly on-site—sharing best practices in preserving freshness, adding value to catches, and ultimately strengthening community livelihoods.
This important initiative is supported by the Pacific Islands Regional Oceanscape Program, or PROP, with funding from the World Bank.
The Coastal Fisheries Division expressed deep appreciation to PROP for its continued partnership in building a stronger, more sustainable future for Kiribati’s fisheries.
