TARAWA - 28 May, 2025
A major health screening campaign has just wrapped up in one of South Tarawa’s most densely populated zones—between Fema Lodge and EzyWay, Teaoraereke—bringing vital care to dozens facing chronic health challenges.
Led by the Korobu Seventh-day Adventist Church, the event targeted Kiribati’s most pressing health concerns: diabetes and hypertension.
The outreach was conducted by experienced 10,000 Toes ambassadors and licensed nurses under the leadership of Mrs. Teera Katarake, Health Director for the Kiribati Mission.
One patient praised the consultation sessions as the most engaging part of the experience.
Mrs. Katarake also shared simple yet powerful tools for long-term wellness, highlighting the NEWSTART health model: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunshine, Temperance, Air, Rest, and Trust in God—pointing out how each plays a role in preventing and managing non-communicable diseases.
With rising health risks across the region, this second major screening marks a hopeful step forward for community-based prevention and the fulfilment of the Church mission theme 2025 to go out into the end of Kiribati with Christ's love and healing.
