A recent clarification from the General Conference has affirmed that commissioned ministers—both men and women—are permitted to baptize, bringing renewed encouragement to women in ministry across the Pacific.
The clarification followed the PNG for Christ campaign, where several women pastors baptized new believers.
This affirmation was met with excitement in Papua New Guinea and among women's ministry leaders across the region.
In Kiribati, only a small number of women are currently pursuing ministerial work.
The Kiribati Mission has just two qualified women ministers—one is serving in the field, and the other, already a commissioned minister, is pursuing a doctorate in theology overseas.
Leaders here say the bold example from PNG could inspire more I-Kiribati women to consider ministry as a life calling.
As the church continues to grow, the need for more trained and Spirit-filled workers—both men and women—remains urgent.
