Bairiki, Tarawa – Tuesday, 8 July 2025Kiribati officially begins its 46th Independence Anniversary celebrations today, with all government offices nationwide closed for the first of the national holidays.

A major highlight is the combined Interfaith Service taking place at the Catholic Santo Iotebwa Mwaneaba in Teaoraereke, where hundreds of Christians from across denominations are gathering.

The service is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., setting a spiritual foundation for the week’s events.

The Interfaith gathering is part of Gospel Day, a long-standing tradition that opens Independence Week with national prayer and thanksgiving.

In the coming days, citizens can expect a full calendar of cultural showcases, sporting competitions, and community celebrations as the nation honors 46 years of independence since 1979.
