Known for his extensive contributions to the economy and well-being of the islands, Mr. Kwong passed away unexpectedly, leaving a void that many believe will be difficult to fill.

Mr. Kwong was not just a businessman; he was a lifeline for the people of Kiribati. With numerous branches and warehouses across the islands and ships, he played a crucial role in supplying essential goods, from food items to household products, to motorbikes that cruise the tough dusty roads and many more, to the local population.

His dedication to ensuring that every islander had access to basic necessities earned him the respect and admiration of many.

In honor of Mr. Kwong's contributions and his untimely passing, all of his shops across Kiribati have closed their doors today. The silence that envelops the islands is a testament to the profound impact he had on the community. Residents have gathered in small groups, sharing stories of how Mr. Kwong's businesses made their lives easier and more comfortable and especially the many hundreds of locals he currently employs at his main company "Taotin Trading."

Government officials, local leaders, and citizens alike have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of a man who was not just a successful entrepreneur but also a beloved member of the community.

The late Mr. Kwong has also served one term as a Member of the Kiribati National Parliament representing the constituency of Abemama and held a ministerial portfolio during his tenure.
